About Hungry March Band, Jonathan Toubin and Baby Soda. Hosted by the "Magician" MC Tanya Solomon
Hungry March Band (HMB) - NYC’s award-winning brass ensemble and performance group has a well earned reputation for mythical revelry with almost two decades of Coney Island Mermaid and Village Halloween parades, rural raves, subway parties, eccentric weddings, processionals for punk rock patron saints, and many other forays into the territories of the free spirit at home in NYC and around the globe. Their music is a melting-pot of world brass traditions, encompassing music from New Orleans second line, Balkan gypsy, New York punk, Bollywood brass, Detroit funk, Latin American samba, and more.
Jonathan Toubin, who Vice Magazine proclaims is "the only DJ we actually like" and Rolling Stone says is "the most liked man in the soul music scene," was voted "Best DJ" in last year's Village Voice "Best of NYC Readers' Poll" by playing literally no hits or fashionable new genre - but rather cutting together raw, wild, and uncommon sides by unsung artists on the original 45s for the contemporary dance floor. In over 2000 gigs in the last nine years, Toubin has gone where no soul DJ has gone before - tirelessly hitting hundreds of nightclubs on five continents and, in recent years, dozens of major music festivals - everywhere from All Tomorrows Parties (five times) to Bonnaroo to SXSW.
Baby Soda is an adaptable and ever changing group made up of New York's finest musicians; featuring trumpet, trombone, clarinet, banjo and the unique one string box bass. The band has performed at some of New York's finest venues such as The Village Vanguard, Barbes, The Knitting Factory and the Jalopy Theater.
In addition to their busy schedule of club dates, Baby Soda loves performing on the street and in the subway. This allows them to hone their skills and bring the music directly to the people. Both Pediatrics and Geriatrics agree, Baby Soda is the sure cure for the aches and pains of the modern world!
