About HiFi Songwriter Showcase with Lenny Zenith and Guy Lyons

Lenny Zenith

Lenny Zenith started playing publicly in New Orleans in his late teens, opening for international touring acts (U2 & Iggy Pop, among many others) and fronting several bands before moving to NYC. He transitioned in Jr. High school, and later attended NOCCA (New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts) home to alumni such as Wynton and Branford Marsalis, Harry Connick Jr. and Terence Blanchard. Zenith came close to securing a deal with major record label only for the execs to get cold feet over Zenith's gender identity.

Throughout the 1990s he led the critically acclaimed NYC band Jenifer Convertible, whose releases — 7" single "Car Song/Co-Dependency" (produced by James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem) and a CD entitled Wanna Drag, produced by Wharton Tiers (Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr.) were widely well-received.

Recently profiled on Vice.com, Lenny Zenith will be featured in a documentary film about the early New Orleans punk scene entitled “Almost Ready”; is often featured in New Orleans press; and will soon publish his memoir Before I Was Me.

His new band, Tenterhooks celebrated the release of their debut EP March 24. It was recorded at [the end] (Kaiser Chiefs, Dirty Projectors) and released on Sugarblast Music Co.

He continues to perform in NYC and New Orleans, and looks forward to completing Tenterhooks’ full-length release before the end of 2015.

Pop/Punk guitarist and songwriter Guy Lyons, formerly of The Figgs, sings songs written for his current band, Blockhouses, and some old ones, too.
