About Harlem Rent Party with Evan Sherman plus Special Guests

The "Rent Party" refers to a social occasion at which a tenant will hire entertainment to help raise money to pay their rent. Originating in Harlem in the 1920s, these social gatherings played a major role in the development of jazz and blues music, with pianists like Fats Waller, James P. Johnson having "cutting contests" where they would take turns and try to "outplay" each other.

Thursday, September 10th will be the debut of the new series at Ginny's in which world-class pianists based in NYC and Harlem will "battle" each other, while paying tribute to the pioneers of the "Harlem-Stride" idiom.

Dinner sets will be at 7:30 and 9:30 and at 11pm, we will host the first Ginny's After Hours Dance Party featuring live musicians, creating a festive and celebratory atmosphere.

Entertainers will include all types of instrumentalists, vocalists, tap dance and burlesque! Come be a part of the revolution!
