When the artistic advisor for jazz at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in D.C., who also happens to be a Harlem resident, handpicks a choice selection of his friends from both cities to play at the world-famous Apollo Theater, it's a concert for the history books. Virtuoso jazz pianist and composer Jason Moran, who has been hailed for his audacity, conviction and breathtaking technique, curates "Harlem Nights / U Street Lights", which brings 16 talented musicians, including special guest Grammy-winning trumpeter Roy Hargrove, onto one stage for a night of music that matches Moran's style: a risk taker and innovator of new directions for jazz as a whole.
