About Goldford
It all starts with a voice. And after hearing the emotive, gritty and always soulful sound of singer-songwriter GoldFord, it is clear that a voice like this is rare.
GoldFord's debut album "Shed a Little Light," written and performed by Chicago-based solo artist Jeffrey Goldford, showcases his unique signature of "rock n' soul," blended with layers of Americana folk and elements of country rhythms. His vocal style emulates Joe Cocker, his arrangements bring out a dose of funk, tied together with a storytelling touch reminiscent of Amos Lee.
Mixed by Steven Kay and mastered by Dave Cooley, "Shed a Little Light" was recorded and produced in LA by seasoned veterans Ethan Phillips, (Fitz & the Tantrums, Allen Stone, Brett Dennen) and Danny Chaimson (Solange, OAR). After discovering GoldFord, Chaimson and Phillips tapped into their vast network of LA's finest to bring this truly classic album to life. Blair Sinta (Alanis Morissette, Damien Rice) provides drums, Ben Ralicke (Ben Harper, Beck) and Jordan Katz (Neon Trees, Jimmy Clif) drive the horn section, and Maurissa Tancharoen (Emmy-winning songwriter) sings background vocals on the introspective ballad "Never Settle." Other standout tracks include the hopeful "Shed a Little Light," the energetic and classic "Ray of Sunshine" and the twang-driven, rebellious "She Don't Know."
"Shed a Little Light" tells the story of GoldFord's hard-won journey into self-acceptance. Whether it is the loss of a loved one, or following your dreams, each song on the album collectively articulates the same message: what is meant to be will be…and never, ever settle.
"When listening to the track 'Ray of Sunshine'…I thought there was some mistake and the souls of the Stax trifecta (Otis, the Memphis Horns and Steve Cropper) were visiting me through the mastering console… but really it was the amazing talent of Jeffrey Goldford."
