About Frente Cumbiero, Combo Chimbita, Greenwood Rhythm Coalition, Quantic
Homegrown in Bogotá, Mario Galeano Toro’s Frente Cumbiero project is on a mission to explore the sound and identity that Cumbia represents in Latin America. His innovative and experimental take on blending Colombian roots and modern day soundscapes have put him on the forefront of the burgeoning Nueva Cumbia generation. With already two vinyl singles on Names You Can Trust, tours through Europe, South America and NYC, as well as massive projects with Quantic (Ondatrópica) and Mad Professor (Frente Cumbiero meets Mad Professor), the group is poised for worldwide recognition.
El Combo Chimbita is a new offshoot of the fast-rising M.A.K.U Soundsystem from the minds of musicians Camilo Rodriguez, Prince Of Queens and Dilemastronauta. M.A.K.U and El Combo Chimbita are comprised of young first-generation New Yorkers from Colombia, and the sound of this stripped down trio is a fiery blend of untamed garage abandon mixed with the diverse African & Caribbean influences that have permeated through the Colombian coastal sound systems.
Joining the bill on selector duty is a trio of world class record collectors: NYCT’s Greenwood Rhythm Coalition (Monk-One & E’s E) & the one and only Quantic aka Will Holland. They will be selecting tunes from their massive arsenal of vintage tropical vinyl sides. Expect a heavy dose of Colombian, Caribbean and other Afro-Latin heaters to keep you warm and nice throughout the night.
Quantic, aka Will Holland is a British born musician, producer and DJ making soul, electronic & Latin music saturated in the tropical soundwaves of the Caribbean. Holland has developed a sound that bridges heritage and progression, marrying spontaneous musicianship with deep, exciting tonality. Holland has completed his fourth Quantic record, which is his fifteenth studio album to date, which features influences from Ethiopian Jazz to Haitian Compas, Salsa Dura from his Colombian homestead, to Detroit techno, with electric sub bass and beat programming, all part of Quantic's trademark sound. Holland records and mixes from his own Sonido del Valle studio where he utilizes a range of vintage studio equipment, working as part sound engineer, musician and producer to procure a rich and original sound.
