About Frank Sinatra: A Centennial Celebration

JAMES LANGTON AND THE NEW YORK ALL?STAR BIG BAND

In celebration of the one hundredth birthday of Frank Sinatra, this compelling show presents the original Sinatra arrangements performed by a world?class big band and pays tribute also to the many collaborators who helped to make Sinatra great.
James Langton, former singer and front man of the internationally acclaimed Pasadena Roof Orchestra, swings new life into some of the standards made famous by Frank Sinatra, tipping his hat to Old Blue Eyes in sophisticated and witty style. And of course a swinging Sinatra program wouldn’t be complete without a finger?popping, first?rate orchestra and we have it in the shape of The New York All?Star Big Band, featuring the cream of New York’s jazz and swing stars.

The show includes many of Nelson Riddle’s quintessential Sinatra arrangements, such as I’ve Got You Under My Skin, Summer Wind and The Way You Look Tonight. But, in addition, James Langton has discovered the original arrangements in the archives for Sinatra hits of the Columbia Records era such as Five Minutes More and Could Ja unheard live since Sinatra recorded them as well as classics from Sinatra’s big band days with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, such as I’ll Never Smile Again, Blue Skies and Polka Dots and Moonbeams, as arranged by the great Sy Oliver.
