About Formula 5, Tweed, Sunflower & the Seeds
Formula 5: A band that truly represents Upstate New York! With members ranging from Albany to Lake George, this 4-piece brings together its diverse influences to create a unique yet familiar jam sound that will make you want to move your feet. With an organic, funk filled sound rooted in the style of some of their jam band idols, Formula 5 brings an honest, classic approach to a genre that is becoming increasingly filled with progressive electronic artists. With thought-provoking and soulful lyrics, soaring melodies, and an emphasis on tight instrumentation and improvisation, this band brings a familiar freshness to the term “jam band”. In their short tenure as a band, they have shared the stage with regional/national acts such as Dopapod, Twiddle, Consider the Source, Aqueous, The Heavy Pets, The Brew, The McLovins, Turbine, and many others while winning over new fans at most of the regional stops in the northeast for original music. They have graced the stages of regional festivals such as Catskill Chill, The Big Up, Strange Creek, Wormtown, Backwoods Pondfest, Green Mountain Getdown (NH), Autamation Indoor Music Festival (Lake George) and many others. With their roots in jam, jazz, funk, blues, bluegrass, electronica and many others, this group is sure to satisfy whatever your taste in music while making it truly their own.
Tweed inspires and excites with music fueled from high energy performance and improvisation. Just as their namesake fabric of mingling colors and textures, Tweed has interwoven a psychedelic web of funk, rock and electronica. The band was formed at University of Delaware and now calls Philadelphia its stomping ground. Their collaboration can take listeners from multi-layered visions through the psyche to sweaty, raging dance parties driven by their own incessant beat.
Sunflower and the Seeds is a diverse and talented five-piece rock band from New Jersey whose overarching sonic identity is lead by singer and primary songwriter, Kyra Schenck, along with guitarist/songwriter Jovan Mann. Kyra's unique, full-bodied, vocals, innate songwriting sensibility, and authentic stage presence always seem to charm the audience. Jovan's playing is packed with raw emotion and versatility, and displays his vast knowledge of the craft mixed with his ability to interpret the moment. Joining them on bass is Joe Harris with an energy that helps define and punctuate the music, setting-up and pushing the grooves forward alongside Joe Huster on drums. Huster brings rock and roll prowess and provides a sturdy foundation to the overall sound. Sunflower and the Seeds have played such notable venues and festivals as: The Bitter End, Sullivan Hall, Mexicali Live, EVOLVE Festival, Opple Topple Festival, Hulavom Festival, and Hoboken's Digable Arts festival. Adding to the mix is Victor Cornette on guitar who instinctively compliments Mann’s style, while bringing high energy and adventure to each show. Currently the band is working on their first full-length album (due out in early 2015).
