About Flow State

New Jersey born and now New York City based, Ben Brody is one of the cities’ most progressive and youthful composers in the experimental classical scene.
As a composer, Brody has had six orchestral works premiered by The Chelsea Symphony since 2009 and has had other various works performed at venues such as The Kennedy Center, 92Y Tribeca, Brooklyn Bowl, The Tank NYC, Galapagos Art Space, The Cell, and Gershwin Hotel. In 2013, he formed his ensemble Flow State, a contemporary music ensemble that defies categorization, fusing classical, jazz and rock idioms to produce a sound that is polished yet ever-changing. Flow State’s first EP generated buzz throughout the modern, psychedelic, and new-music scene. In 2013, it was featured on WNYC’s New Sounds “Top 10 Release of 2013” Listener’s Poll, hosted by John Schaefer. Aside from his own compositions, he has collaborated with artists like Snowmine, Grizzly Bears’ Daniel Rossen, Shara Worden, Elliot Goldenthal and even comedian Zach Galifianakis. Currently Brody is a member of New York City’s leading Hip-Hop Brass Band, PitchBlak Brass Band doubling on French horn and Guitar. In 2014 Brody was nominated by the ASCAP/Columbia University Film Scoring workshop faculty to receive the ASCAP Foundation Henry Mancini Music Fellowship. He is currently working on a Double Bass Concerto for the Chelsea Symphony and in the beginning stages of a commission with MadArt Creative.
