About Filibusta Live
“The Midwest king of bass... Filibusta is blowin my brain all over the cubicle”
Nobody knows the true value of your potential better than you do. Opening new doors and learning new ways of exploring that potential is key to distinguishing yourself from the billions of other people circling the game board with you.
Teaching himself how to play guitar got Midwest-based producer Troy Probst off to a strong start, directing his naturally driven dexterities towards pushing his limits and mastering the unfamiliar. By 2007, Probst had begun to produce and mix electronic music under the name Filibusta, bracing the scene with his goal to “restore the progressive and melodic elements of glitch and dubstep.”
Throughout his young career, Filibusta has been recognized for his innovative approach to his music, dynamic live show, and a flare for complexity and diversity; pushing new boundaries, bouncing through genres from glitch, trap, dubstep and future funk. His 17-track debut LP Honeycomb Eyes (2012), is described as combining “gritty hip hop vocal samples with his handcrafted beats and gripping bass drives for an impressive balance of complexity, zest, and originality, paralleling the work of other contemporary artists like Gramatik, Archnemesis, Robotic Pirate Monkey, and Satoru.” ~theuntz.com
Departing from straight glitch to trap with his sophmore EP, Filibusta released What’s Trappenin’ (2013). Again met with high praise from the EDM community, What’s Trappenin’ has been described as “Trap like I have never heard. Instead of obnoxious horns and an insane amount of random off kilter vocals samples accompanied by saturated annoying hats, Filibusta chooses to incorporate melodic leads, sweeping modulated synths, vocoded custom vocals and his trademark glitched-out riffs over some big kickn’ bass combos. This will probably be the first time you hear trap with chord progressions and melody” ~damnsonmusic.com
To date, Filibusta has also done remixes for Pretty Lights, Lettuce, Mr. Bill, Minnesota, and Protohype.
Also recognized for his exclusive live shows that vary from each one-of-a-kind performance to the next, Filibusta has shared the stage with such noteworthy acts as Skrillex, the Glitch Mob, EOTO, Break Science, Dirty Phonics, Random Rab, Andreilien (Heyoka), Wick-It the Instigator, Crizzly, Marty Party, Minnesota, Bro Safari, Kill Paris, K-Theory, Freddy Todd, Michal Menert, Manic Focus, Robotic Pirate Monkey, and ill-esha to date, as well as performed on such festivals as Wakarusa, Summercamp, Lighting in a Bottle, Sonic Bloom, Infrasound, Electric Forest, Farm Fest, Arise, and SXSW.
In 2015, you can expect to hear a lot more Filibusta rumbling through your eardrums with his new album Set Lasers on Funk set for release in early 2015, coinciding with his Grassroots signature series Filibusta hat.
