About Dylan Jane, Tony Halchak
A natural-born storyteller, it was at a young age that she started writing short melodies on a children's keyboard to express her experiences. This began a relationship with music that she has never shaken. She grew up listening to Cat Stevens and Carole King among many others in her parents' collection, artists whose influence would later surface in her own style. By integrating Alternative, Indie, and Americana tastes from her own generation, she began to develop an Alt-Folk sound all her own -one that can easily shift from dissonant and angsty to soulful and sultry depending on a song's context. Fused with a fascination of all things literary, she describes her music the same way we hear it: "lyrically centered."
Dylan began making a name for herself with her debut album Paint, Clay, and Other Mediums in 2012. Produced by Bret Alexander at Saturation Acres Recording Studio in Dupont, PA, Paint blends a wide spectrum of styles and includes musicians from all different backgrounds, only furthering the fact that each of her songs can be quite varied from the next. It was following this studio experience that the concept of Dylan Jane and the Turning Leaves was born, a name meant to feature the collective of friends, studio musicians, and band mates who help to build the colorful and variegated soundscapes of her poetry-based approach.
Also as a follow up to Paint, Dylan launched The Songbook Project in which she stitched together a number of demo-style recordings in an effort to document the process of her work. Chapter One of the project, produced with Steve Gilliland, presented a departure from her first studio album with its natural rawness and stripped-down vibe.
Born and raised in South Florida and relocating to Maryland, North East Pennsylvania, and her current home in Philadelphia, Dylan likes to stay in motion. She has travelled to play in cafes, venues, and listening rooms up and down the East Coast and spends much of her time on the road. She is currently performing in support of her latest release from Saturation Acres, From an Island (2014).
