About "Don Quixote"

"Don Quixote": The Fanciful Tale of Chivalry by Gelsey Kirkland Ballet

The Lower Manhattan-based Gelsey Kirkland Ballet Company brings to life the landmark ballet "Don Quixote" to Pace University's Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts. Choreographed by Marius Petipa, with music by Ludwig Minkus, this classic ballet is based on Miguel de Cervantes' Spanish novel about an idealistic middle-aged man obsessed with tales of chivalry, who sets out with his pragmatic servant, Sancho Panza, to defend virtue and punish those who violate the code of honor. The duo's adventures take an unexpected turn when the would-be knight mistakes an innkeeper's daughter for his dream-lover, Dulcinea. This enchanting full-length ballet is packed with romantic misadventures set against the backdrop of dusty Spanish streets filled with toreadors and gypsies.
