About Dheepa Chari

From velvety softness to sultry blues, jazz vocalist Dheepa Chari plumbs the depths of human emotion with a fluid, compelling delivery that transcends time and musical styles. Her creative development has revealed astounding growth, from her jazzy makeover of Depeche Mode’s synth-pop classic “World in My Eyes” on her first full-length album Some New Fashion, to her latest album Patchwor, released in May 2015 and developed with composer/pianist Lars Potteiger. With Patchwork, she takes a giant step into the forefront of contemporary jazz singers. The influences of her personal inspirations are all fully displayed in her singing – the dulcet sultriness of Sarah Vaughan, the effortless control of Ella Fitzgerald, and the emotional depth of Billie Holiday. The musicians on this album create a vivid synergy, weaving a rich tapestry of inspired creative interplay that takes the listener on a fascinating journey with each song.

The New York City based singer has graced the East Coast jazz scene with her dazzling versatility and range, and has corralled praise from some of the genre’s guiding lights such as All About Jazz, Jazz Corner, and Jazz Times. She is frequently performs at Rockwood Music Hall in NYC in addition to other venues across the country.
