About DeFalco Presents: Delsonido (2 sets!) w/ DJ Mickey Perez

Delsonido is a dynamic and multicultural NYC-based band that brings a fully saturated sound to the global music scene.

With a diverse lineup of young musicians, producer/composer Elkin Pautt from Barranquilla, Colombia, first developed the project by meshing vallenato, cumbia and Latin sounds with elements of electronic music. He took the sound a step further by underlining it with influences of funk and reggae. Bottom line? It's impossible not to dance when Delsonido takes the stage.

Delsonido has featured an impressive palette of talented musicians:

Vocalist and songwriter Mai-Elka Prado Gil, a Buddhist from Panama, heads up the band with her sultry, commanding vocals, immersed in Afro-Latin tradition. She infuses hip-hop, R&B and soul influences, creating a powerful and unforgettable mixture. Through lyrics, her global citizen philosophy is conveyed in droves.

Ivan Garizabalo, guitarist from Barranquilla, Colombia, brings a backbone of funk and melody-driven licks to his head-banging afro-rock sound. His rap sheet includes the J-rock power trio Me&Mars and the psychedelic-dub band N4.

Chris Hansen, drummer from the Bay Area of California, moved to New York City to study music at The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, where he earned a B.A. in music performance.

Jason Disu, trombonist from California, was mentored by some of the biggest names in horns, including the late influential trumpeter Laurie Frink, Vincent Gardner, Wycliffe Gordon and Elliot Mason. He's recorded and toured the world with acclaimed bands like LCD Soundsystem, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Bobby Sanabria, Talib Kweli, Lady Gaga and David Byrne and St. Vincent.

Anthony Coleman II, trumpeter from Sacramento California, earned a spot in the inaugural class of Dave Brubeck, Don Byas and Christian McBride's Brubeck Institute of Jazz, thanks to his deeply felt respect for the roots and traditions of jazz. He remains an in-demand live performer and studio musician for artists like Ludacris, Joss Stone and Raphael Saadiq.

Delsonido live performances are truly something to behold. They build, almost inconspicuously, from a laid back, anchored energy into arms-waving, hips-swaying dance parties that navigate through a global spectrum of music with seamlessly intensity. The real time collaboration of each musician fuses into a next level sound that inspires a free spirited explosion of festivity, from the front of the stage to the back of the room.

An American born DJ of Cuban & Ecuadorean descent, Mickey was born in Chicago, IL in August the 9th, 1978. From birth, Mickey grew up hearing music from Motown specifically The Jacksons, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, The Temptations & The Supremes as well as James Brown & Michael Jackson as a solo artist to Latin greats such as Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Beny More, Hector LaVoe & Willie Colon on a daily basis. Upon moving to Miami in the summer of 1990 those influences would eventually morph into The Beatles, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Gangstarr, Wu-Tang Clan & 2Pac among many others.

After becoming disillusioned with his career path as a Filmmaker, his passions rapidly turned from Filmmaking, Directing and Editing to learning to DJ full time after becoming inspired legendary New York, Chicago & Detroit based DJ's David Mancuso, Larry Levan, Frankie Knuckles, Ron Hardy, Theo Parrish. His goal in the beginning was simply then as it is now: to select a high standard of dance music from all parts of the world, incorporating an array of rarely heard dance music from Africa, Latin America & the Caribbean of the 60's, 70's & early 80's into his Funk, Soul & Disco sets of that same era while also mixing along at times Old School Hip Hop & House of the 80's & 90's. It was from this nexus, Mickey began his first party - The Global Breakdown - with the party's mission statement being to "bring you the funk in all its forms" paraphrasing Digable Planets' memorable lyric with the sole intention of constant movement on the dancefloor.

A full time DJ since 2010, Mickey currently holds residencies at the following locations: Camaradas in Spanish Harlem, Nublu in Alphabet City, Bembe, Cubana Social & Hotel Delmano in Williamsburg, as well as The Emerson & Splitty in Clinton Hill and lastly, Project Parlor & Doris in Bed-Stuy. I also hold a bi-weekly Tuesday party at Trophy Bar in Williamsburg and a weekly, every Friday at The Graham in Bushwick. His best & longest running party remains The Global Breakdown. Going 3+ years strong, this party goes down every 1st Saturday of the month at Project Parlor in Bed-Stuy with its only mission continuing to be to "bring you the funk in all its forms."
