About Corporal (Featuring Michael Shannon), .357 Lover, Meisko, Soft Gang and after show set by Sliver Juice in the Frontier Room
Corporal formed in Brooklyn in 2007 when Michael Shannon
(vocals/guitar) and Ray Rizzo (vocals/drums) resumed making music after having played in a band years before as part of a play they were in. Also retuning from the previous band/play experience was guitarist/singer Robert Beitzel. Since recording and releasing their eponymous first album in 2010, Corporal performances have been rare but growing in frequency in New York City, Chicago, New Orleans, and Louisville, always with the addition of a great bass guitar player (David Wnorowski joins in for the Bell House show) and other special guests.
357 Lover is an arena rock band originally from Denton, TX. Moving to NYC, they became a backing band for both John Cameron Mitchell of Hedwig and Andrew WK, respectively. In addition to supporting Andrew WK, they've supported They Might Be Giants and Ben Folds. At the Ars Nova Theater, they staged the rock opera Alice Wakeman and are planning to do it again. They also collaborated with Circus Una in the production of the rock musical Circus By the Sea. In 2014, they collaborated with The Love Show and created Severed: The Tragic Loves of Frankenstein's Monster.
.357 Lover consists of Ron Salvo (drums), Avi Fox-Rosen (guitar), Steve Dawson (guitar) Dave Wallin (bass), and Corn Mo (piano and vocals). .357 Lover’s dynamics include power-chord riffs and densely-packed, narrative structures, a homunculus of Queen and Tiny Tim. The first EP Your Favorite Hamburger is Cheeseburger was released in 2007. The long-playing sophomore effort Diorama of the Golden Lion was released in 2009. In 2014, they released a vinyl record/board game called The Purchase of the North Pole. They are working on the next one . . .
Mesiko's name, like their songs, derives from a feeling, something familiar and yet not of this world. The band released their first album Solar Door in 2014, produced by Mesiko and Sam Cohen (Yellowbirds, Apollo Sunshine) and have shared bills with Jolie Holland, Trixie Whitley, Bonnie "Prince" Billy and Mucca Pazza.
Soft Gang are a group of four non-threatening individuals with a combined age of 160. They are based in New York City though that fact is largely inconsequential to the sounds they make. Dominic Cipolla (Phantom Family Halo, Sapat) plays the drums. Charlie Hines (Dichroics, Sabers) plays the bass guitar. Darin Mickey (Dichroics) plays the electric guitar and sings a little. Kaori Nakamura (a descendant of the original axis of evil) gets the important messages across with her voice and shakes various percussion instruments. Soft Gang's soon to be released debut LP was recently recorded by Martin Bisi.
Sliver Juice is a Silver Jews cover band.
