Conspiracy of Beards: 30-Man Choir Sings Leonard Cohen at Highline Ballroom

Aside from having the coolest name in a cappella music, Conspiracy of Beards also has one of the coolest concepts. The 30-member, all-male choir takes the heartbreakingly poetic songs of singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen and sets his words and simple melodies to complex four- and five-part harmonies. Drawing on influences ranging from jazz and gospel to barbershop and doo-wop, these fresh arrangements capture all the emotion and humor of Cohen's body of work, which includes such classics as "Hallelujah," "Famous Blue Raincoat," "Suzanne," "Everybody Knows," "Hey, That's No Way to Say Goodbye" and many more. A staple of the San Francisco music scene, Conspiracy of Beards has performed everywhere from the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and has been featured on NPR and PBS. Catch this unique group at New York's Highline Ballroom.
