About Commonwealth Revival

Darla was conceived in the bowels of Drexel's Studio A when Mike, Richie, Alex, Kosta and Jake got together to record what would be Darla's first songs. Over the course of 2013, Darla continued to refine her sound while members were busy touring, producing and playing with other bands. By early 2014, Darla was looking to start performing and added members Wil Schade and Brendan Monahan to reinforce her sound and invent new and interesting parts. At her first show, in a basement in West Philly, Darla discovered the way her music was to be enjoyed: live, energetic and utterly chaotic. From there, she released her first EP in June of 2014 and has not looked back.

Darla's sound is forever evolving in the incubator that is the band's strange but elusive musical mind. With heavy influences from bands such as Vulfpeck and Snarky Puppy, Darla's style can be described as funky fusion competing with the boldness of hard rock. The lyrical horn-driven melodies coincide uniquely with the jarring, but methodical nature of the rhythm section. Each musician adds his own necessary flavor to the mix.

Since 2014, Darla has been performing around the Philadelphia area gaining support through her live, vibrant shows. After releasing her first EP, Movies! Movies! Movies!, on June 12, 2014, Darla worked with the great people at Feedback Loop who filmed and produced her live video for "Pretty Mess." Darla is planning to release her second EP in early January.

At the age of 13, Alex and Alex became fast friends, and have been playing music together ever since. Eight years later, they have joined forces to become Second Child. Drawing inspiration from their love of (almost) all music, ranging from folk roots to grooving soul, they are forging a new path in the indie/folk music realm.
