About Cometa, The Royal Guard, Kill the Standards
Formed in 2005 by twin brothers Grant [lead vocals, guitar] and Gareth Cometa [lead guitar, vocals]. Originally hailing from Manitoba, Canada, the brothers moved to the states in the late 90s and would begin writing songs together during college.
“I was fronting my own band and Gareth started playing guitar,” says Grant. “My band had a falling-out and Gareth and I started writing together; naturally, we had good musical chemistry.” Using a computer program, the twins would email each other song ideas and edit each other’s work. The result was, as Grant says, “a collection of some pretty bitchin’ songs.”
After grabbing up roommate Haroon Ramzan [bass/vocals], the band sent song samples to Wes Long [drums/vocals], who quickly joined the project after being found through Facebook. “I got an instant message from a complete stranger. Then I heard the riffs, the chugging, the vocal harmonies and double bass runs, and I was pretty much sold,” says Wes.
Since their formation, they have released an EP called Three Songs, performed at Toads Place in New Haven, the Webster Theater in Hartford, and they have opened for such acts as Sevendust, New Found Glory, Rise Against, and Anberlin.
In 2012, the band recorded and co-produced their debut album In Rhyme and Reason. They are currently playing shows to promote the album at venues in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York, with a planned summer 2015 tour in the Northeast.
The Royal Guard is made up of long time friends and seasoned musicians with one simple goal - to rock. Todd spent years traveling US, Europe and Asia, writing and making music. Upon returning to New York City with a new musical idea, he turned to two lifelong friends to make it happen. The first call was to Fred and his talent on drums. Andy, who has played music since he was two years old and has written, recorded and performed his whole life, was the final key to getting things started. With the simple idea of getting together to make great music, everything fell into place.
Recording the collection of songs seemed the next logical step, resulting in the album “Showdown”. Mobile studio setup gave the band the opportunity to further define their unique sound and style.
In the beginning stages, the band had to pull through its share of hardships. They had to watch Todd lose his mom after a long battle with cancer while their drummer was fighting the same fight, going through series of radiation and chemo. These events halted the band for a season, but didn’t quench the initial idea. Quite contrary, it gave inspiration to some new music. The guys are back and they are more determined than ever, playing local clubs and venues, and putting on an amazing live show.
We are a Rock Band based out of NYC, ready to Kill The Standards of the world!
Honeymoon is a band that mostly lives in Brooklyn and we are trying to make songs that sound nice.
