About City of the Sun

City of the Sun was formed in 2010 in New York City. They gained an earnest following during their early days playing local bars and on the streets of downtown Manhattan.

City's distinctly eclectic sound is a mélange of flamenco, blues, and folk rock. The band cites Rodrigo y Gabriela, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Santana, and Coldplay as major influences. Smooth tones, driving rhythms, and fluid melodies are accompanied by technical flourishes that captivate audiences—they have been described as "tremendous," "powerful," "mesmerizing," and "a re-invention of acoustic music."

COS is made up of lead guitarist John Pita, rhythm guitarist Avi Snow, and percussionist Zach Para. In 2013 they supported rapper/poet K'naan on his U.S. tour; they have opened for Chromeo and DJ Questlove at the Seeds of Peace charity event in New York City, for Marky Ramone of the Ramones at Irving Plaza, and for Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes at the Bergen Performing Arts Center in New Jersey. They were invited to play several TED Conference events including TEDcity2.0 and TEDxMidAtlantic 2013.

City of the Sun is currently playing shows throughout New York, recording, and developing their sound, building upon guitar rhythms and riff foundations with percussion and electronic soundscapes.
