About Chop and Quench (The Fela! Band), Afrozep, Busty and the Bass

CHOP AND QUENCH, “The Fela! Band”, is comprised of members of the cast and band of FELA! the musical. Individually, the musicians are some of the finest in New York, having performed with The Roots, India Arie, Elvis Costello, and many others. Lead singer Sahr Ngaujah was nominated for a TONY Award for his performance in the Broadway show and has been featured on film and television. As a unit, the band has gotten to accompany performers such as Beyonce, Femi Kuti, and Angelique Kidjo. Known for their straightforward performances of classic Fela Kuti compositions, they have branched out, bringing their own original music to the stage. After performing around the world, they recently performed at the Sundance Film Festival in conjunction with the premier of Alex Gibney’s film “Finding Fela”. They are now back home in New York preparing new material to take into the studio for their first recording since the Fela! Broadway cast recording, and looking forward to starting a weekly Monday night residency at the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn.

AfroZep originated in 2009 with the mission to spread African music to wider audiences while paying tribute to the greatest Heavy Rock band of all time. Some tunes are straight mash-ups of Fela Kuti and Zeppelin, others are Zep tunes but set to original grooves based off the music of artists such as Tinariwen, Thomas Mapfumo and Franco and others are stripped down Zeppelin arrangements injected with the pulse of traditional African drumming.

Wilson (guitar/vocals) Marshall Greenhouse (drum-kit), and Ryan Behling (bass and lead vocals) bring years of road experience with them and a rotating all-star cast of musicians they have met along the way. Members of the project have recorded and toured with Chicago Afrobeat Project, 1000 Vertical Feet, 56 Hope Road, Starrunner, the Motet, Dubconscious, Seneke West African Drum and Dance Ensemble, Chicago Samba and many more.

Busty and the Bass is a nine-piece collective of musicians from across North America who met during their first week studying music at McGill University. Originally born out of small Montreal house parties, over the last three years 'Busty' has evolved into a tight electro-funk band and become one of Canada's most vibrant and exciting new bands.

In October 2014, Busty and the Bass competed against hundreds of other bands to win the “Rock Your Campus” competition, the search for Canada’s top university band, sponsored by CBC Music and TD Bank. The group won a $10,000 cash prize, and opened for the Arkells in a sold-out performance in Montreal.

Busty is renowned for their energetic live performances that showcase their musicality, creativity, and camaraderie. Busty performs regularly across Quebec, Ontario, and the North-Eastern United States, and their brand of powerful original music and innovative covers has won them international praise.
