About Chick Corea and Béla Fleck

Pianist Chick Corea & Banjoist Béla Fleck: Fusion Legends

When you think of the banjo, jazz is most likely not the first thing that comes to mind, but for over 35 years, banjo innovator Béla Fleck has been reinventing his instrument, fusing bluegrass, jazz, funk and even classical music. One of his key influences in this journey has been legendary fusion pianist Chick Corea. Now these two master musicians are teaming up for what promises to be one jaw-dropping concert at Mayo Performing Arts Center. Corea got his start in the late '60s, replacing Herbie Hancock in Miles Davis' band, with whom he recorded landmark albums like "Bitches Brew". Since striking out on his own, Corea has continued to push the musical envelope, composing such jazz standards as "Spain" while racking up 59 Grammy nominations and winning 20.
