About Caitlin Mahoney EP Release
Caitlin Mahoney is a New York City-based singer-songwriter who writes of adventure, passion, and mayhem, or as she calls it, "the Spin."
Having just wrapped recording of her second album aptly-titled Spin with producers Chris Grainger (Wilco, Kopecky Family Band, Sixpence None The Richer) and Jonathan Trebing (Peter Bradley Adams, the Silver Seas, Mindy Smith), Mahoney is gearing up to bring her charm-filled vocals, reflective words and snap-worthy hooks to her biggest audience to date.
Fan-funded by a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign, Spin centers around life’s chaos and all its different forms. Each of the seven tracks sparkles with confidence, precision and wisecracking humor. "I'll always be spinning in one way or another," Mahoney laughs. I go on a long tour, I crash. I raise 150% of a Kickstarter goal...I crash. I work a 40-hour temp week, play six gigs, go to trivia with my friends, babysit some cute kids and I crash. Then I get back up, find a little healing in a sweet concert or recording, and 'the spin' begins again!"
Spin is a tell-all album - founded in collaboration and experimentation. "The songs were written over a two year period, significantly filled with challenges and growth experiences. So I thought a good way to frame that was to change up the scenery, go to Nashville, and work with some people I'd never met before - really having to stand on my own two feet as a musician," says Mahoney. "I wanted to move in a more pop direction," she adds, "but still remain grounded in the heart of the Caitlin Mahoney song - thoughtful lyrics, catchy chorus lines, and weird harmonies."
Born and raised in Orlando, Mahoney spent her early days in children's choir and musical theater. Her music is a mix of folk, pop and rock, influenced by artists like Bruce Springsteen, Sara Bareilles, and Jenny Lewis. With classical vocal training and a degree in Creative Writing from Florida State University, Mahoney brings a diverse perspective to her songwriting and unique multi-layered sound.
At home in New York, Mahoney regularly performs at leading venues such as Rockwood Music Hall. In 2013, Mahoney teamed up with Brooklyn producer Jeff Fettig (Trixie Whitley, Wilsen, Nathan Reich) and independently released her debut EP, West for a While. The four-song EP is a metaphorical exploration of what it means to “go west” and what to do once you get there. The song “You are a Safe Place” was chosen from over 1,000 submissions in the 2013 "Fatherhood Challenge Contest," sponsored by the "This is Fatherhood" campaign.
West for a While also saw a successful college radio campaign, during which her record was added to the rotations of over 100 college radio stations throughout the country. The EP was also featured on Hello Giggles and propelled Mahoney to independently organize and execute five solo tours domestically and internationally in the past year, within the United States and in Europe.
In 2014, Caitlin played more than 110 shows across the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Italy.
