Babs' Basement Bazaar Inspires Tour de Force Comedy "Buyer & Cellar"

The revelation that Barbra Streisand built a private shopping mall, complete with a doll shop, vintage clothing atelier and candy store, in the basement of her Malibu home has inspired many reactions -- but none as ingenious as "Buyer & Cellar". In this hysterical comedy, playwright Jonathan Tolins spins a bit of Babs' trivia into a fictional one-man show of real depth and heart. Follow struggling thespian Alex More as he takes a job as the sole employee of Streisand's wonder emporium. As the two develop a rapport, you wonder whether their basement bonding will ever move upstairs to real friendship. Jason Gillis returns to The Theater Project ("Miss Mannerly") to portray six characters in the Lucille Lortel Award-winning "Buyer & Cellar" at The Burgdorff Center for the Performing Arts.
