About Burger Records presents Cotillon, Michael Rault, Step-Panther, Warbly Jets, The Gooch Palms
Cotillon is the musical pseudonym of Jordan Corso, a singer, songwriter, and guitarist whose music is a fusion of indie rock, psychedelia, surf guitar, and pop from various eras, all filtered through Corso's oblique but engaging lyrical sensibilities. The Cotillon story begins when Corso was living in Los Angeles and working an unrewarding office job; Corso had been playing guitar since he was a child, and he started working on songs during his lunch breaks to relieve the monotony. A busted romance gave Corso plenty to write about, and eventually he opted to form a band to perform his new material. Corso named the project Cotillon and released its first EP, Votive Flower, in the fall of 2012. The EP received enthusiastic reviews from the West Coast indie press, and a second EP, White Roses, appeared in the spring of 2013. Chet "JR" White of the indie pop act Girls was bowled over by the first two EPs from Cotillon, and offered to produce an album for the group. The band booked time at EastWest Studios (formerly Western Recorders, where the Beach Boys cut Pet Sounds), and Corso later traveled to San Francisco to do overdubs and mixing with White at his home studio. Corso fell in love with San Francisco and relocated to the Bay Area, with a rotating cast of musicians eventually replacing the original Cotillon lineup. Cotillon's self-titled full-length debut album was released in January 2015 on Burger Records.
Michael Rault is a Toronto based singer, guitarist and songwriter fronting his own eponymously named band. A gifted multiinstrumentalist and arranger, his hooky blend of pop rock refracts an evolution of guitar based music through the ages. An era-defying mischievousness defines his synthesis of jukebox R'n'B, and acid psych as refracted through the experience of an adolescence spent idolizing the clever craftsmanship of the Beatles and the wiggy New Orleans textures of Dr. John in equal measure. Rault's latest album Living Daylight will see worldwide release on Burger Records in 2015. As a recent transplant from his native Edmonton, the album is a melodically adventurous take on a classic theme – leaving home to make your way in the big city. Produced and recorded in collaboration with Renny Wilson (Mint Records), Living Daylight is a dynamic fusion of the past and future.
Step-Panther are an irrepressible shred-rock 'n' garage-pop trio out of Sydney. They've forged a fun and fast live reputation by playing shows at home and in the UK with Yuck, Kurt Vile, Girls, Hunx & His Punx, Jeff The Brotherhood and more.
New York-born, Los Angeles-based Warbly Jets are here to revive rock music from it's indisputable funk. The newly released track "Psychomanteum" takes you on a pleasant journey inside yourself and showcases what the band means when they say they're "coming for your ears, your money, your girlfriends, your faces." Flirtatious guitar riffs, buoyant drums, and introspective lyrics meet to create a raw and natural sound which is much needed in today's musical landscape. The highlight of the song for us is the slowed down, tripped out bridge which takes you down a well of echoey vocals and guitar. It's the perfect tempo to get your headbang or your hippie sway on, throw your lighter up, and get lost in a groove. Just when it feels like you're about to get completely submersed in the waters of your own mind forever, the Jets shoot you back out to the surface for some fresh air. Fuzzy guitars and bouncing drums lead the way for the final chorus, marching you back out into everyday life. Check out "Psychomanteum" and replay the journey to your heart's content - WE THE BEAT
Once upon a time in a land far away a Frankenstein's monster of a baby was created. Equal parts GG Allin, Iggy Pop, Roy Orbison and Olivia Newton John (circa Let's Get Physical era); this baby was an unusual child that would be raised all the way across the oceans in the suburbs of Newcastle, Australia by two very normal parents. Their normality however, could not stifle the ever-growing demon inside the boy that at age 14 would be unleashed on an unsuspecting Novocastrian audience. This boy is Leroy Macqueen; singer, guitarist and one half of notorious garage-punk duo The Gooch Palms.
His partner in this story is Kat Friend, a fellow Novo that as a young girl, always dreamed of meeting her demented prince charming and starting a band with him. And sometimes, dreams really do come true. Not so long ago she picked up a couple of drum sticks, got herself two drums and has not looked back since. In the very short while it has taken Kat to become a bona fide shit-pop goddess, she has also become an absolute pro at providing the much needed yin to Leroy's schizophrenic yang, keeping it cool as a cucumber while oozing her very own brand of badass-femme-sass.
Together these two are an unstoppable force that have been turning heads and boners everywhere they go. They play catchy-as-hell pop music for the underdogs of this world, singing songs about bogan life in a small industrial town on an isolated continent in a far away hemisphere. Not to mention a lot of songs about outer-space. The Gooch Palms debut album Novo's delves into the reality of what life in Newcastle is like for these two misfits and the good, the bad and the boredom that comes with it. Released through Anti Fade Records Novo's quickly sold out of the first pressing with pressing number two available RIGHT NOW!
For almost 4 years Australia's favourite punk sweethearts have been melting faces with their high energy, take no prisoners, balls out, drool-inducing live shows. They make a lot of noise for a minimal two piece but what they lack in instrumentation they make up for in stage presence and songs that you'll be humming, whether you want to or not, for days, months or maybe even years after the show is over.
During their existence they have shared the stage with some amazing international acts such as Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Thee Oh Sees, 5,6,7,8's, Nobunny, Hunx & His Punx, Shannon & The Clams, The King Khan & BBQ Show, Tyvek plus many more and have played some of Australia's biggest festivals including Big Day Out, Groovin' The Moo, Sydney Festival and Mona Foma to name only a few.
But after getting itchy feet in Australia, the pair decided to expand their horizons and crossed the big ol' Pacific to bring unsuspecting audiences in the USA the salty sweet taste of the gooch. They picked up a rental car which was kindly upgraded, practiced driving on the opposite side of the road and embarked on an extensive nation-wide tour of America ending at the legendary Gonerfest in Memphis, where Leroy expertly demonstrated his down-under snake handling and bushman climbing skills.
These guys aren't done with America just yet though, in fact the love affair has only just begun. The Gooch Palms are set to release a new 7" single through Detroit label Urinal Cake Records within the coming months and will be back in early 2015 for round two!
So keep your eyes, ears and foreskins peeled for The Gooch Palms, their coming for ya!
