About Brothertiger, What Moon Things, Ice Balloons, Hank May
Based in the heart of Brooklyn, Brothertiger has been a staple of modern synth pop for the past 4 years. Since starting the musical endeavor in 2009 in his bedroom in Ohio, John Jagos has received unanimous acclaim for his material from notable press such as Pitchfork, XLR8R, FADER, and more. He has had the pleasure of remixing and being remixed by countless artists, including Keep Shelly in Athens, FLASH/LIGHTS, Teen Daze, Blackbird Blackbird, A Million Years, Teeel, and more.
After releasing two EPs with crowd pleasing hits, Jagos signed to Mush Records in 2012 and released Golden Years, his first LP. With raving reviews from AllMusic, In Your Speakers, and
Alternative Press, Brothertiger's sound became known as "a chilledout exploration of creator John Jagos' lush, lofi dance world." After touring across Europe and the U.S. in the summer of 2012, Jagos returned to the studio to begin work on his second LP, Future Splendors, a more futuristic take on the synth pop sound Brothertiger has become known for.
With his second record on the horizon, and with a new live band to increase the energy for his shows, the future looks bright for Brothertiger. With his sound everevolving into the future, there's no question that Brothertiger's music will be staying with us for a long while.
Recorded at home in Morisi's tiny New Paltz apartment (nicknamed “The Dump”), WMT’s eponymous full-length album was mixed by Scott Nicholas and mastered by Jesse Magnum (Elf Power, Kishi Bashi) in Athens, GA, a town that has become a second home for the band. All but one of the record’s eight songs were co-written by Harms and Morisi, and together they recorded all of the instrumentation on the album (san Nicholas' roiling noise collage, "Moon Things"), What Moon Things was released on 12" vinyl and CD in early June 2014 on Athens, GA label Hot Grits Records, and met with critical praise, including a rating of 7.3 by Pitchfork Media. Their follow-up record is expected out mid-2015 on NY-based Grand Jury
Brooklyn Based Ice Balloons' eight-song debut EP came out in October of 2013, featuring the track Night Slave that had a video release on Vice/Noisey the following month. The band is a hodgepodge of musicians -Sean Powell (FuckEmos), Kyp Malone (TV on the Radio), Dan Scinta, Rob Bryn (Wild Yaks) Giselle Reiber (Midnight Masses), B.A. Miale and a common fly on vocals – but more in a garage punk synth-noise vein than any of the bands from which the members derive.
In live shows, Ice Balloons strive for maximum spectacle, with video projections (B.A. Miale), piña-colada scented smoke and a whirl of chaotic noises, all grounded by a 60's garage punk skeleton.
Hank May is a rock singer in Brooklyn—sounds like Nirvana meets Cat Power. He’s been playing shows and generating material for 10 years. He relocated from his hometown Los Angeles to New York City in 2013 for a larger, denser and less trendy music scene. He’s currently releasing dozens of stand alone singles on the internet and playing live with a band mostly at the venue Palisades.
