About Brooke Moriber with special guest The Slim Kings: Epidermolysis Bullosa Charity Event
Brooke Moriber is a singer/ songwriter known for her edgy pop tunes. She has been critically acclaimed for her "clarion voice" by the Associated Press and her "immense vocal range". Recent shows featuring music from her latest EP "Fire" have earned her glowing reviews by bloggers and magazines applauding her "huge vocals", and songs that are "destined for high rotation".
Born in the heart of Manhattan's Greenwich Village, (known for it's artistic community), Brooke has made a mark on New York City with her distinctive sound and her unique career.
Brooke's first professional gig was performing on the Broadway stage as young Cosette in Les Miserables. Since then, she has made a name for herself on stage, film, and TV as one of New York's most versatile performers.
As a teenager, Brooke's original pop/rock music was licensed to Nickelodeon and her songs have been featured on soundtracks for film and theater . Her band has played venues throughout the Manhattan club circuit such as Pianos, The Cutting Room, The Knitting Factory, and The Red Lion. Brooke's most recent gig at Revolution Music Hall was filmed for Verizon Fios channel 1 where she was chosen as one of the artists to be featured on Rick's Rising Stars.
While juggling appearances with her band Brooke has performed in 7 Broadway shows including those in which she created such roles as "Nadine" in The Wild Party, "Iola Stover" in Parade and "Lily" in James Joyce's The Dead.
She played a young opera singer in Follies on Broadway and performed with Cyndi Lauper and Alan Cumming in The Threepenny Opera. Brooke's "ability to transform herself" as an actor has landed her roles opposite stars such as Lili Taylor and Kristen Johnston (with special mention by the New York Times) and on camera she has made appearances on Law and Order: CI, Swift Justice, A Town's Revenge, Off-Track Betty, Descent, and As The World Turns.
Brooke also premiered Randy Newman's "Stupid Little Songs" in Seattle, portraying Randy's first wife in The Education Of Randy Newman. She has been a featured performer on the Tony awards for three years and recently performed in a tribute to Marvin Hamlisch at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park .
Proceeds from this show will be donated to EB Research Partnership (EBRP). EBRP is dedicated to funding research aimed at treating and ultimately curing Epidermolysis Bullosa. www.ebresearch.org
The Slim Kings stand at the eye of a perfect storm for bluesy rock 'n' roll. Among the New York group's ranks are three young guns; singer, and rhythm guitarist Michael Sackler-Berner, lead guitarist Henry Geller, and bassist Andy Attanasio along with legendary drummer Liberty DeVitto, who spent over three decades playing on seminal records for, and performing with Billy Joel. Blending elegant song craft, impeccable instrumentation, and a whole lot of soul, this formidable lineup comes to life.
Self-produced and recorded in their rehearsal studio in Brooklyn, these musicians have written songs together that tap into a pure and powerful energy. Michael asked Liberty, a drumming icon and the very first drummer he had ever seen in concert, to play on a session he had booked the very next day. Liberty listened to the music and called back fifteen minutes later. Now, with The Slim Kings, they have solidified their musical partnership as band mates. The quintet really comes together on a stage where new ideas and old souls unite to make a beautiful racket.
