About Born Loose

Born Loose is the brain child of The Candy Snatchers' Larry May and Suke, as well as Shane Konen from Live Ones and Eric Robel from Nova Express, and they're here to kick up a shitstorm of punked up garage tinged rock 'n' roll with their self titled album on Drug Front Records. From the amped up opener of 'Step Up To the Plate (Be a Runaway)' right through to 'Bobo Blues' this is pretty much full on. The rage is however temporarily put on hold for the laid back 'China Bus Express' with it's swagger and catchy gang vocal chorus it's a nice sidestep and a pretty decent tune too.
'Heart Attack' is back on it though with a great dirty riff scuffing over a solid beat and some mean screams from Larry May. 'House Of Creeps' is built around a nasty riff and funky drumming, and textured with some cool organ and percussion whilst May goes hoarse as he spits out some pretty mean lyrics, this really is a great tune by anyone's standard.
'Folds Of The Flesh' is more of the same as Born Loose know their way around a punk rock n roll tune and clearly have the chops to knock out an album packed to the gills of dirty rock as 'Fat Chance' will clearly testify!
The band add some Dwarves style potty mouth to proceedings on the (not so) subtle 'Sugar Pussy' and give the likes of Nashville Pussy a run for their funky hard rockin asses on 'Dumbass Avenue' as they blend a bit of MC5 with the punk and hard rock, and "hey presto" as if by magic we've got ourselves this high octane noise that sounds oh so good yet feels oh so wrong.
To take this baby home we've the more subtle 'Bobo Blues' that feels like a marathon clocking in at over five minutes.
'Born Loose' is a mighty fine album that keeps on giving with each repeated listen, now let's hope that Born Loose isn't a one off and we get some more of this dirty bad boy rock 'n' roll because I like it. No…wait… scrub that…. I love it! and the final minute of 'Bobo Blues' just about sums it up - wild , reckless, horn honkin', rock 'n' roll - fantastic!
