About Black Violin

Black Violin Mashes Up Hip-Hop & Classical Sounds

The classically trained string instrumentalists that make up Black Violin play a mind-blowing blend of classical, hip-hop, rock, R&B and bluegrass. Since starting Black Violin a decade ago, violist Wil Baptiste and violinist Kevin "Kev Marcus" Sylvester have performed from SXSW stages to the Billboard Awards to President Obama's inaugural ball. R&B fans know Black Violin from their collaboration with Alicia Keys on her hit "Karma" and the duo has worked with artists as diverse as Kanye West, Tom Petty, Aerosmith, Aretha Franklin and The Eagles. They'll hit Red Bank's Count Basie Theatre backed by ace turntable whiz DJTK (Dwayne Dayal) and a host of live instrumentalists who'll help them shred through tracks from their latest album "Stereotypes".
