About Between The Lines


Steve Dean and Cara Graham Hogan are the songwriting duo, Between The Lines. Both are seasoned music industry professionals with very different backgrounds and exposure to music. People have commented that their style is hard to pinpoint, it is a unique contemporary sound with a touch of nostalgia.

Steve has written 8 #1 hits including the number one most played song in country music this decade, “Watching You”, for Rodney Atkins, and the Grammy nominated, “It Takes A Little Rain”, for the Oak Ridge Boys; also among his number one hits are: “Southern Star”, for Alabama, “Round About Way”, for George Strait, “Walk On” for Reba McEntire, “Hearts Aren’t Made To Break”, Lee Greenwood, and “No More Lonely”, for The Roys. Other artists who have cut his songs are: LoCash, Dierks, Bentley, Sister Hazel, Pure Prairie League, Waylon Jennings and others.

Cara is an entrepreneur and business owner, has represented artists in management, and has been a part of the marketing and entertainment relations team for Gibson/Epiphone for many years. She has worked with a vast array of artists in a diverse range of genres including: Heart, Steven Tyler, Train, Plain White T’s. My Chemical Romance, Twisted Sister, Nick Colionne and more.

Together they write with and for other artists but have noticed a distinctive sound in the music they have created together. Those songs are the songs that define the music of Between the Lines.
