About Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater

Alvin Ailey Dance Theater Comes to New York City Theater

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater gave its first, now-fabled performance in March 1958 at the 92nd Street Y in New York City and are back in the City with a dazzling array of new offerings. Originally led by Alvin Ailey, today, the company continues his mission of celebrating modern African-American dance by presenting important works of the past and commissioning new ones. For the Winter 2015 season, you'll be there as current artistic director Robert Battle presents one of his own works -- the world premiere of "Awakening" -- along with an all-star lineup that includes world premieres of Ronald K. Brown's "Open Door" and Rennie Harris' "Exodus", plus perennial crowd-pleaser "Revelations" and more. See the company that the U.S. government called "a vital American cultural ambassador to the world" when they bring their awe-inspiring new show to the New York City Theater.
