About "Africa My Beautiful"

Acclaimed Vocalists Share the Songs & Stories of Their Homelands: "Africa My Beautiful"

Embark on an international exploration of culturally rich music and storytelling with "Africa My Beautiful" taking the stage at New York's Playroom Theater. The performance features the vocal talents of South Africa's Thuli Dumakude and Zimbabwe's Tanyaradzwa Tawengwa. Dumakude has earned a Lawrence Olivier Award and an Obie for her Broadway performances ("The Lion King", "Poppie Nongena") and has served as a social activist supporting AIDS organizations in her home country. Opera singer Tawengwa is a celebrated classical pianist, Princeton graduate and a member of the post-colonial African "Born Free" generation. Through personal reflections and reminiscences, dance and traditional, classical and contemporary musics, these two extraordinary African women capture a half-century of cultural and social change.
