One Day University: "The Year A Woman Ruled the World"

In all of ancient history, there's only one female leader who had a real impact on her kingdom's affairs for any significant period of time -- the Egyptian pharaoh Hatshepsut. UCLA Egyptologist Kara Cooney conducts this two-hour seminar, titled "1450 BC: The Year A Woman Ruled the World", and begins sifting through a few other candidates, like Cleopatra, before exploring the important reign of Hatshepsut, who took the throne as a regent of the child king Thutmose III. You'll learn how this remarkable woman successfully wielded her power both before and during her time at the top, as part of this One Day University course at New York's Hunter College.
