About "Wild Sound": Glenn Kotche and Third Coast Percussion

Wilco's Glenn Kotche & Third Coast Percussion's "Wild Sound"

Percussionist and composer Glenn Kotche (of Wilco) joins boundary-pushing ensemble Third Coast Percussion for "Wild Sound", an exciting evening of percussion-based music centered on one of the most extraordinary objects in the Met and Musical Instruments department's collection, an 1880 rock harmonicon. Also called a stone dulcimer or a geological piano, this unusual instrument most closely resembles a xylophone made of rocks. No strangers to unorthodox approaches to music, Kotche has been known to incorporate everything from hubcaps to orchestral instruments into his drum kit, while Third Coast are acclaimed for their collaborations across disciplines, including with engineers and astronomers. These innovative musicians will also perform some of the 20th century's most vital percussion-based classical music, such as Steve Reich's "Music for Pieces of Wood" and "Nagoya Marimbas". See this special concert at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
