Discovering the exciting new talent at a one-act play festival can be a rush on its own, but The Secret Theatre kicks it up a notch with their annual competition in Long Island City, which factors in your votes when awarding the best play, director, actor and actress. Over the course of a couple of weeks, "The LIC One-Act Festival 2017" stages three different programs, each consisting of seven to eight short plays. The top vote-getters will head on to the finals, which includes a final round of voting from both a panel of judges and the audience, followed by a BBQ and an awards ceremony. With playwrights showcasing their best short works across several nights, it all adds up to multiple opportunities for great theater.
