About Domino Kirke
For Brooklyn-based songwriter/singer Domino Kirke, the entertainment industries have served as a formative part of her existence since childhood. Though she is known both as the daughter of Simon Kirke, drummer for bands including Free and Bad Company, and sister to actresses Jemima (of HBO’s Girls) and Lola (whose credits include Noah Baumbach’s Mistress America and Gone Girl), Domino has forged her own path in music, most prominently with 2014’s Independent Channel and now with her upcoming debut full-length, Beyond Waves. Heralded by Vogue as a “new kind of triple threat” for her work in music and her role as a mother and a doula, Domino has held an active place in the New York music scene for well over a decade. A graduate of the prestigious LaGuardia High School’s classical voice and piano programs, Domino signed her first record deal with Andre Levins’ Fun Machine label after being discovered at the historic Joe’s Pub before working with Mark Ronson (Amy Winehouse, Adele) and Jordan Galland, with whom she formed DOMINO. The prominent indie pop band toured for three years with bands including Lily Allen and Gang of Four and was featured on Lena Dunham’s breakout film “Tiny Furniture”.
After taking time off following the birth of her son in 2009, Domino joined forces with Samantha Huggins and Lindsey Bliss to form Carriage House Birth, a highly-regarded Brooklyn and Los Angeles-based professional doula service that has assisted over a thousand families on both coasts since 2011. In a triumphant return to music in 2013, Domino released her first solo EP, titled The Guard. Produced by Timo Ellis and Jorge Elbrecht, the EP highlighted Domino’s ethereal vocals and melodic production, reminding the industry of her immense talent. The intersection of motherhood, her work as a doula, and her burgeoning music career would prove to be fertile ground for her next EP, 2014’s Independent Channel. Alongside her good friend Luke Temple, of nationally-recognized indie rock band Here We Go Magic, Domino found herself writing new material largely inspired both by her son and her work with Carriage House. Together, the pair co-wrote the four-song EP, which was highlighted by major national publications including but not limited to Noisey, Blackbook, VICE and Vogue, amongst others. Of the record, Nylon stated that “the result has Temple’s spacey vibe with Domino’s dreamy vocals, which together is endlessly listenable”. In support of both The Guard and Independent Channel, Domino made appearances at several New York institutions, including Mercury Lounge, Brooklyn Bowl, The Ace Hotel, The Manhattan Inn and more.
Following Independent Channel’s success, Domino has been hard at work on her debut full-length record, due out in the late summer of 2017. Produced by Domino Kirke and Joan Wasser, professionally known as Joan as Police Woman, and engineered by Daniel Schlett (Modest Mouse, Oberhofer, DIIV) at Brooklyn’s Strange Weather and Bunker Studios, Beyond Waves sees Domino return to ethereal pop. Throughout the recording, her airy vocals are punched up by the instrumental work of Parker Kindred, Benjamin Lazar Davis, Ryan Dugre, Jen Turner, Mike Bloch and Will Graefe, and so Beyond Waves elevates Domino’s work as a musician and as an artist into a rooted maturity. In support of the record’s release, Domino will be touring actively around the country throughout the year.
