Ali Carter Album Release

About Ali Carter

Like a warm summer breeze, and a sweetness that is balanced by a mixture of poetic prose, and sensual lyrics that take you into ethereal lightness; this is Sydney born singer-songwriter Ali Carter.

With a honey toned voice, Ali’s sound is akin to pop accessibility — Duffy, while blending culture and original textures—Emile Sande, mixed with the sensuousness of jazz music –Nora Jones ,and; the personal story telling and sensibility of folk music— Corinne Bailey Rae.

Ali creates music that allows the magic and grace of both the deep joy, and pain to evolve, and also permitting the unknown to play a central character. The struggle is always felt, and somehow during that journey and in that wide open space and that one small moment; sharing that sonic soundscape, you feel that you are at home.

With grandparents treading the boards in the Australian vaudeville theatre scene, and getting into her mother’s eclectic record collection at a young age – and often singing harmonies together in the kitchen – the great love and feeling for music was ingrained from early on.

Ali studied music privately, and at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and spent many years performing with various ensembles in a range of styles ( 3 productions with the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of W.A, lead singer for Sydney funk soul band ‘Blue Inc’, and her own jazz group The ‘Alicats’) she eventually found the ukulele – or, as it were, this humble instrument called to her again, for as a child her grandfather would play all manner of songs on the ukulele as Ali would sing along.

Thus, the stories and experiences began to morph into songs, to come to life and to the light—to share.

Ali was fortunate to tour in Croatia and the United Kingdom, with flutist Adriana Von Runic before landing in New York. And as many before her can say, her heart was brazenly taken, and she now calls Brooklyn home.

Prior to relocating, Ali spent some time in the studio with respected producer and multi-instrumentalist V Jeffrey Smith (Soul Folk Experience, The Family Stand) in the Summer of 2013.

Ali’s original music has been shortlisted in a major songwriting competition (Vanda and Young) and fans describe Ali’s music as: joyful, intimate, and erotic; healing, soothing; like love in your ears and music to dream to. Ali is currently in production and recording for her debut album.
