Museum of Modern Art New York

Japanese architect Yoshio Tanaguchi won the worldwide competition to redesign New York's Museum of Modern Art. When it reopened in 2004, the MoMA had completely transformed into a fully-modern, glass showcase for contemporary art, sculpture and film. Large open spaces on the ground floor house mammoth exhibits of modern art, while the galleries for viewing modern painting and photography have a more intimate feel. Highlights of the modern art collection include Vincent Van Gogh's "Starry Night" and over 25,000 photographs dating from 1840 to the present. Below the lobby, two theatres play modern films and host regular screenings. But one of the Museum of Modern Art's biggest draws is the The Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden, complete with a reflecting pool and sparse vegetation for a modern, minimalist effect.
